Paul Boag

Paul is one of the three founders of Headscape. He speaks extensively on web related subjects both on his web design podcast (boagworld.com) and various conferences around the world. He is the author of the Website Owner's Manual and writes extensively for various online and off-line publications. He has been working on the web since 1994 and loves it as much now as he did then.

What do you do at Headscape?

I look at how the web can integrate with our clients’ overall business and marketing strategies to help generate the best returns on investment. I tend to be involved in the initial conceptual stage of projects when the general direction is being set.

What do you do when you aren’t doing that?

I am obsessed with the web and so act as Headscape’s unofficial research and development department. I also blog and podcast extensively and travel the world trying to excite people about the potential of the web. Oh yes, I am also worryingly addicted to Twitter.

What has been your favourite project to work on and why?

My favourite project is an e-commerce website called Wiltshire farm foods. This site sells frozen ready meals to the elderly and has presented a number of unique challenges, not least designing a website where the average customer is in their 80s.

However most exciting is the fact that I have now worked with them since 2004 and have helped increase their sells by an unbelievable 10,000%.

Do you have a hobby or interest we should know about?

I’m afraid I am the stereotypical geek. As a result I’m obsessed with gadgets, science-fiction and anything made by Apple. I am also a Christian who runs my local church youth group, which consumes a huge amount of time but is massively rewarding.

What is your greatest personal achievement?

My initial reaction would be to say “raising my son”. However I think that is more to do with my wife than me. Instead I will say it is writing the website owners manual. I’m not a natural writer and found the whole process incredibly challenging. However nothing is more satisfying than seeing your own book in your local bookstore.

Some of my favourite things:

Paul Boag Paul Boag Paul Boag Paul Boag
A mantra I fail to live by but wish I did. Winston Chuchill was not only an amazing guy, but he had this way of summing up life beautifully. A superb book on influencing human behaviour both online and off. My precious! My comfort food. Always eat stacks of it when I have had a bad day. Fond childhood memories. Would be the most beautiful place on the planet except for the weather.
