Headscape

Creating attractive, usable websites

client: River Thames

Cared for by the Environment Agency, the non-tidal Thames is an important resource for tourism and business. The new Thames website is at the heart of the Environment Agency's marketing strategy for the Thames.

The River Thames website has been named tourism website of the year in the Tourism ExSEllence Awards 2007.

What we did on this project:

Stakeholder and user interviews
With numerous organisations involved in the site and multiple user groups it was neccessary to set aside time for stakeholder interviews in order to better understand the requirements.
Development
River Thames utilises Headscape's content management technology and uses the Google Mapping API to display the locations of over 10,000 points of interest.
Design and usability testing
River Thames required a clean usable interface focused on allowing users to quickly complete key tasks. The design was produced with this aim in mind while still encorporating corporate branding.
Information architecture
With task completion a high priority it was necessary that the information architecture was easy to understand. Through card sorting and expert review we developed a structure suitable for the River Thames website.
