Dan Sheerman

Dan is Headscape's first dedicated Front-End Developer. Having been always torn between design and development, he's thus far settled somewhere in the middle, occasionally jumping between the two. Notable likes include coffee (preferably intravenously), semantic markup, proper grammar, sarcasm, t-shirts with witty slogans and speaking in the third person.

What do you do at Headscape?

Most of my day is spent taking the carefully crafted pixels from the designers, coding them to working markup and styles, and then wrestling with Internet Explorer to compel it to follow the latest web standards / do what it should have been doing in the first place. I also dabble with ‘proper code’ from time to time.

What do you do when you aren’t doing that?

When I’m not flailing my arms and shouting loudly at IE, I’m generally being nerdy about the latest tech and design, debating semantics, standards and usability, maxing out the credit card on anything that’s got an Apple logo on or near it, or watching vast amounts of American television shows. Normally while drinking wine.

What has been your favourite project to work on and why?

Well right now, it’s my first day, and I’m bug-fixing in Magento CMS. I think I’ll give it a little while before I answer that one.

Do you have a hobby or interest we should know about?

I suppose I’m generally pretty boring in that I’ll go to great lengths to avoid any sort of physical outdoor activity. Saying that, I do enjoy pelting down windy country roads at night in my awesome car, DJing with Traktor & my Hercules console, digital photography, and ensuring my massive collection of digital media is tagged to a degree that’s frankly just obsessive.

What is your greatest personal achievement?

Does ‘living in a shared house at university for nearly a year without bludgeoning anyone to death with dirty crockery’ count as a personal achievement?

Used to have vinyl, but DJing with digital is so much nicer. I mean you wouldn't want to have to carry all that music around, that'd seem like exercise. You'll frequently find me tearing up the countryside at well under the legal speed limit in my totally impractical, petrol guzzling Coupé. Oh, and I love my 27 It was a hard decision moving to the countryside. Mainly because Dominos will no longer deliver my Pepperoni Passion Dominator with extra chicken and chorizo. Bogle Vineyards' Petite Syrah. Or indeed almost anything that's red in colour and alcoholic. Or just alcoholic. Or caffeinated. Threadless tees. Need I say more?
